Common Questions

DECK & FENCE
FAQ

Do I need a permit for a deck in Ajax?

Most decks over 24" above grade require a building permit in Ajax and Durham Region. Gritwell assists with the permit application process and ensures all work meets Ontario Building Code.

How long does a deck build take?

A standard 12×16 pressure-treated deck typically takes 2–3 days once materials are on site. Composite builds and larger projects may take 4–5 days. We give you a realistic timeline before we start.

What's the difference between pressure-treated and composite?

Pressure-treated lumber is more affordable upfront and easy to repair. Composite decking costs more initially but requires almost no maintenance, no staining, no sealing, no splinters. We'll help you choose based on your budget and lifestyle.

Do you install fences on slopes or uneven ground?

Yes. We use racked (stepped) or contoured fence panels to follow the grade of your yard. Every post is set in concrete for long-term stability regardless of terrain.
